FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What do personal stylists do?
A personal stylist is someone who helps others look and feel their best by identifying their unique, personal style. A personal stylist will regularly assist with immediate wardrobe needs such as shopping & planning outfits for parties, events, business and holiday travels, etc. At Styled by Paula, our mission is to build confidence through your wardrobe.
  • What makes a good personal stylist?
A good personal stylist has knowledge of a broad spectrum of fashion brands, trends, and styles while taking into account which colors, silhouettes, and styles best suit each individual client. A good personal stylist will have excellent communication skills to provide a seamless experience. At Styled by Paula we want to understand your wants and needs, and communicate that through the best choices for your wardrobe.
  • Why should I hire you as opposed to another personal stylist?
Earning a degree does not set you apart, experience in your field does. I have been in the fashion/retail industry for over 20 years, it’s all I know. I’ve walked on high-fashion runways, appeared in countless style magazines. I’ve opened and operated a women’s boutique, and eventually became a lead personal shopper for Bloomingdales and Nordstrom. All of this led me to perfecting the art of building confidence through wardrobe. I take pride in educating my clients, in helping men and women understand what flatters their lifestyle and body type. The goal is to build a timeless, capsule wardrobe. And with all of that said, I am also a great bargain shopper!
  • My style is totally different from yours. Will you find stuff for me, that I like, or will you just pick things you like?
One of the first things we will discuss during your style consultation is your lifestyle, what you like/dislike to wear and what you feel the best in / what you prefer to camouflage. I will also get a very good sense of your style by looking at your wardrobe during your Closet Edit. The stores and items I choose are based on you, combined with my years of experience. I will always shop with you in mind, your style, your shape, your needs. I may push the boundaries of your comfort zone and encourage you to try something new but that’s what developing a true personal style is all about.
  • What areas do you serve? Do you travel to other areas? Can I travel to shop with you?
Styled by Paula primarily serves the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas metroplex. We do travel to our clients all over the U.S., or our clients travel to us. We can work virtually on a case-by-case basis as well. Please reach out for more information regarding virtual or out-of-town services. styledby@paulanewlands.com Tel: (214) 699-9470
  • What’s the typical process?
Let’s start with a style consultation. During this conversation, we’ll get to know each other so that you feel comfortable, and I can learn what your needs are to recommend where we begin. I frequently will recommend starting with a Closet Edit to remove what is no longer serving you and move forward with intention. If your closet feels fully stocked, we’ll book a Wardrobe Styling appointment to make the most of your wardrobe and provide outfits at your fingertips. Or, we may proceed with a Shopping Appointment to intentionally fill the gaps we’ve found in your wardrobe during your Closet Edit.
  • How much time should I schedule?
Every client’s wardrobe is different. I will typically ask for a photo of your closet/wardrobe during our style consultation to provide a customized estimate.
  • How do you decide what should stay and what should go?
We use our years of experience and knowledge in the industry along with factors like fit, lifestyle, goals, quality, and versatility to determine what stays and what goes. Outdated styles, overworn pieces (hello pilled sweater), and wrong sizes are some examples.
  • What should I do with the items I no longer want? What can I consign?
We recommend donating to women's shelters or goodwill. Some clients prefer to donate to their church or local drives. If you have lightly worn designer clothing, shoes, accessories check out your neighborhood consignment shops. We are always happy to facilitate the process as well. Donations and consignments.
  • How do I pay for my service?
In general, you will not be charged prior to your appointment, but we do require a valid form of payment on file. We will complete the payment at the end of your appointment and several payment options are available (cash, check, debit, or credit card). For Shopping Appointments, we do require a deposit for your shopping budget prior to your appointment.
  • How much should I plan to spend on new clothing?
Every client’s needs are different. Based on our conversation during our style consultation, I will provide a recommended budget based on your objectives and we will align on this together. We build wardrobes that are meant to last, so we may recommend investing in certain pieces. Your wardrobe checklist will prioritize key pieces, but not all items need to be purchased at one time or even in one season.
  • Can I give your services as a gift?
Absolutely! We love sharing an experience gift with loved ones. We can offer any of our services as a gift based on their needs which we can help identify with you. It is important that whoever takes part in this process really wants it, so I do recommend including them in the process.
